Comparison between detailed digital and conventional soil maps of an area with complex geology Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Bazaglia Filho,Osmar; Rizzo,Rodnei; Lepsch,Igo Fernando; Prado,Hélio do; Gomes,Felipe Haenel; Mazza,Jairo Antonio; Demattê,José Alexandre Melo.
Since different pedologists will draw different soil maps of a same area, it is important to compare the differences between mapping by specialists and mapping techniques, as for example currently intensively discussed Digital Soil Mapping. Four detailed soil maps (scale 1:10.000) of a 182-ha sugarcane farm in the county of Rafard, São Paulo State, Brazil, were compared. The area has a large variation of soil formation factors. The maps were drawn independently by four soil scientists and compared with a fifth map obtained by a digital soil mapping technique. All pedologists were given the same set of information. As many field expeditions and soil pits as required by each surveyor were provided to define the mapping units (MUs). For the Digital Soil Map...

Edaphic and Topographic Factors and their Relationship with Dendrometric Variation of Pinus Taeda L. in a High Altitude Subtropical Climate Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Horst,Taciara Zborowski; Dalmolin,Ricardo Simão Diniz; Caten,Alexandre ten; Moura-Bueno,Jean Michel; Cancian,Luciano Campos; Pedron,Fabrício de Araújo; Schenato,Ricardo Bergamo.
ABSTRACT The study of the relationships between the yield potential of forest stands and the conditions offered for plant development is fundamental for the adequate management of the forest when aiming at sustainable high yields. However, these relations are not clear, especially in commercial forests, on rugged terrain where relationships between the landscape, soil, and plants are more complex. Considering this, we tested the hypothesis that the morphological aspects of the soil conditioned by topography are the main limiting factors for tree development. Our objective was to evaluate the edaphic and topographic influence on the dendrometric variation of Pinus taeda L. of a forest stand in a subtropical climate at high altitude. For that, Spearman’s...

Prediction of soil classes in a complex landscape in Southern Brazil PAB
Moura-Bueno,Jean Michel; Dalmolin,Ricardo Simão Diniz; Horst-Heinen,Taciara Zborowski; Cancian,Luciano Campos; Schenato,Ricardo Bergamo; Dotto,André Carnieletto; Flores,Carlos Alberto.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of covariate selection by expert knowledge on the performance of soil class predictive models in a complex landscape, in order to identify the best predictive model for digital soil mapping in the Southern region of Brazil. A total of 164 points were sampled in the field using the conditioned Latin hypercube, considering the covariates elevation, slope, and aspect. From the digital elevation model, environmental covariates were extracted, composing three sets, made up of: 21 covariates, covariates after the exclusion of the multicollinear ones, and covariates chosen by expert knowledge. Prediction was performed with the following models: decision tree, random forest, multiple logistic regression,...

SOIL VARIABILITY IN DIFFERENT LANDSCAPE POSITIONS IN THE PORTO ALEGRE BOTANICAL GARDEN, SOUTHERN BRAZIL Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Silva,Luís Fernando da; Nascimento,Paulo César do; Inda,Alberto Vasconcellos; Silva,Edsleine Ribeiro.
ABSTRACTKnowledge of soil characteristics in areas where activities related to the environment are developed, such as Porto Alegre Botanical Garden (JB-PoA), is a fundamental condition for the sustainable use of this natural resource. The objective of this study was to characterize, classify and evaluate some issues about soil formation in Porto Alegre Botanical Garden, as well as relate their distribution on the landscape according to environmental characteristics. For the morphological description and collecting samples four profiles were selected (P1 to P4), located in the summit-shoulder transition, backslope, footslope and toeslope, respectively. Granulometric distribution of the P1 and P3 profiles indicated sharp textural gradient, with presence of...

Soils Developed on Geomorphic Surfaces in the Mountain Region of the State of Rio de Janeiro Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Fontana,Ademir; Chagas,Cesar da Silva; Donagemma,Guilherme Kangussu; Menezes,Andressa Rosas de; Calderano Filho,Braz.
ABSTRACT: The evaluation of soils in representative landscapes constitutes an opportunity to evaluate spatial distribution, discuss formation processes, and apply this knowledge to land use and management. In this sense, from the perspective of an environmentally diversified region, the aim of the present study is to evaluate the occurrence and understand the formation of soils in different geomorphic surfaces of a landscape from a mountain region in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The study was developed in the Pito Aceso microbasin in the municipality of Bom Jardim, composed of narrow valleys and a rugged mountain domain, with elevation between 640 and 1,270 m. In a representative landscape, the geomorphic surfaces were obtained from the slope segments and...

Spatial variability of physical attributes of an alfisol under different hillslope curvatures Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Camargo,Livia Arantes; Marques Júnior,José; Pereira,Gener Tadeu.
The influence of relief forms has been studied by several authors and explains the variability in the soil attributes of a landscape. Soil physical attributes depend on relief forms, and their assessment is important in mechanized agricultural systems, such as of sugarcane. This study aimed to characterize the spatial variability in the physical soil attributes and their relationship to the hillslope curvatures in an Alfisol developed from sandstone and growing sugarcane. Grids of 100 x 100 m were delimited in a convex and a concave area. The grids had a regular spacing of 10 x 10 m, and the crossing points of this spacing determined a total of 121 georeferenced sampling points. Samples were collected to determine the physical attributes related to soil...

Spatial variability of the physical and mineralogical properties of the soil from the areas with variation in landscape shapes BABT
Souza,Zigomar Menezes de; Marques Júnior,José; Pereira,Gener Tadeu.
The objective of this work it was to use the geostatistics methods to investigate the spatial relationships between the physical and mineralogical properties of an oxisol planted with the sugarcane in an area of slight variations in the landform. The soil was sampled at 10 m regular intervals in the crossing points of a 100 x 100 m grid. At each point, the soil was collected at 0.0-0.2 m, 0.2-0.4 m and 0.4-0.6 m depths for the analyzes of physical properties and at 0.6-0.8 m for the mineralogical analyses. Both the Kt/Kt+Gb ratio and Kt relative crystallization level were higher in the compartment I than in the compartment II. As a consequence, the soil penetration resistance and bulk density were higher in the compartment I, while the macroporosity and...
